João Amoêdo holds a degree in Civil Engineering, from UFRJ, and in Management, from PUC-RJ. He began his career as a trainee at Citibank, was the executive director of Banco BBA, president of Finaustria, vice president and member of the directors board of Unibanco and member of the directors board of Itaú BBA and João Fortes Engenharia. In 2011, outraged by the high tax burden and the poor services received from the state, he founded NOVO. In June 2017, Amoedo left the party presidency to present his candidacy for the presidency of Brazil.
